W Chinach aplikacja serwuje młodocianym użytkownikom ciekawe materiały dydaktyczne (eksperymenty naukowe, wystawy muzealne) oraz patriotyczne, i ogranicza czas spędzony na „konsumowaniu” internetowej rozrywki do 40 minut dziennie. Wersja przeznaczona poza granice Chin takich ograniczeń nie posiada, więc dzieci mogą spędzać długie godziny oglądając bezsensowne materiały i biorąc udział w głupawych, a często i niebezpiecznych „wyzwaniach”.

Jak podsumowuje jeden z bohaterów filmu: na zadane dzieciom pytanie „kim chciałbyś być” odpowiedzią nr 1 w Chinach było „astronautą”, a w USA... „influencerem”.
